Q: “Do you want to stand in front of those big doors for a photo, Al?” (asked on day one of the first of three Travel Prize trips)
A: “No.” (I barked)
The foundation of a 30 minute performance. The “big doors” became the frame for many photos by fellow sightseers. Like a gravitational pull, the doors encouraged a quick snap from many. My quick, sharp “no”, said in embarrassment, stayed very close to me throughout the trip and that’s when I thought about using the hasty response of mine in order to create a longer one. Commenting on being a tourist for the week as well as a response to my dismissive tone, I forced myself to stand in front of these doors on day three.
